Mid-year Goals Review: Staying on course

August 11, 2020

I am currently enjoying a few slow-paced weeks which have been well earned. I am using this time to consider what action I need to take as we move forward towards the end of the year. I know that it has been an unusual year all around the world but there is still much that can be done in the remaining months of the year. Each year, I like to take some time for mid-year goals.

Before I began my few weeks off, I was planning on creating another website where I could talk more freely about my attitude to life. I am very passionate about spirituality and consciousness and I wanted to have a website where I could talk freely about that and cater to those with similar interests. It was fair to say that creating this new website was number 1 on my list of mid-year goals.

So, at the beginning of last week, I took a pen and paper and started to outline everything that I would need to do to create the website. When I was finished, I had at least a week’s worth of work to do and I was going to have to spend several hundred Euros. This was all fine with me as what had to be done, had to be done. But then, the strangest thing happened. I couldn’t get myself to take action. Here was the most important of my mid-year goals and yet, my gut kept telling me that there were more important things to do.

I wasn’t taking action on this goal and yet, I was enjoying my time off. I put it down to my needing some rest and I decided to go with the flow. Then, at the end of the week, I was watching a soccer match when a thought entered my head. That thought was:

‘You don’t need another website, you already have one which you are not using to its full potential.’

I pondered this for a short while and I realised it was true. I have another website, called Live Your True Story and the original premise of that website was to talk about being the person you were meant to be, including spirituality, consciousness, and a whole lot more. Unfortunately, with the illness and death of my brother last year, I had lost sight of what I was supposed to be doing and the website developed a narrower scope than what was intended.

So now, the most important of my mid-year goals has changed from creating a new website to developing an existing website into what it was intended to be. Because I took the time to listen to my intuition, I have saved at least a week of work and several hundred Euros. In addition to this, I would have had to spend time and money, each week, to maintain that new website.

The real value of a mid-year goals review

Mid-year goals reviews are incredibly valuable. There are two main benefits of mid-year goals reviews:

Conclusion

As a result of conducting my mid-year goals and review, I have freed up valuable time and resources to use on the tasks and projects which are truly important to me. I had been wondering where I was going to find the time to do everything which I felt needed to be done but in one quick step, I have drastically reduced the amount of time needed to get everything done.

I always advise my clients that the first step in tidying up your time management is to stop doing things that do not need to be done. The mid-year goals review is one powerful way to help you do just that.
